Overview

This two-day Healthcare Operations and Lean Concepts module consists of a presentation of the theoretical framework of Healthcare Operations Management and Lean Concepts, specific examples, and a participant workshop. This course includes a prereading assignment which will be sent to participants several weeks before the course starts.

Physician, nurse leaders and senior administrative executives in health systems, hospitals, medical schools, group practices and other healthcare organizations will benefit from the business strategies and leadership development skills presented. Healthcare Operations and Lean Concepts is part of the Healthcare Management Series, a Certificate Program for Clinicians and Senior Administrators presented in a modular format

The University of Michigan's schools of Business and Medicine collaborate to offer this unique management program for healthcare leaders in six two-day modules that make it easier for clinicians and senior administrators to fit into busy work schedules.

Complete five of the six modules and receive the University of Michigan Certificate in Healthcare Management, or take only the modules that interest you most.

Program Focus

DAY 1 Develops the basic fundamentals of Operations Management which include critical paths, bottleneck analysis, and the relationship between clinical variability and wait times. Specific examples of the operating rooms and emergency department flows are developed. Highlighting the physics of process flows helps participants understand the trade-offs among efficiency, cost, and quality.

DAY 2 begins with an introduction to lean management and engages participants in project teams to develop and solve operational problems within a prototypical health system.

Fee Policy
